Hello friends and welcome back to BORP. Between adjusting to semi post pandemic summer activities, Mickey's continued furtherance of scholastic studies, and Tristan essentially moving to the beach to teach surfing to unsuspecting passers by despite barely being able to swim himself, it's been a while since we were able to get an episode finished. Luckily, what an episode it is for you all. Tristan is still at it nagging everyone with Covid regulation PSAs and Mickey busted out some truly stellar Chinese greet tea for this one. Our album pick this episode (15:36) is Metric's 2003 debut LP, Old World Underground Where Are You Now? Mickey and Tristan discuss the post 9/11 surveillance state and ever expanding millennial income gap that contributes to the anxiety and cynicism that permeates the album. For our film pick (1:11:15) we watched the 2018 Lars Von Trier film The House That Jack Built. Is it a bitting satire that critiques our normalization of violence, or is it self important pretension that delusionaly conflates fetishized abuse with high art? For New and Noteworthy (1:56:30) we check out music from Koreless, Rhye, Sleater Kinney, and Sau Poler. For Three Questions (2:22:48) Mickey tries to go easy on Tristan but Tristan bombs anyways. Find the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and right here at Midrange. You can also find our episode playlist featuring all of the songs we discussed on Spotify and Apple Music. Thanks for listening!
