G'day mates! Welcome to EP 40 of BORP! Good lord we've made it to 40 episodes, congratulations to you for sticking with us this far. It's a special one for us so worked hard for you- the listener- to make it a heckin' good one. Mick explains the economic values of a boxed wine diet while Tristan retreats into the 90s for yet another Fraiser reference- so off to a good start. For the beers (7:07) we both take a trip to New Westminster for inspiration. Tristan got his hands on the much coveted Blush Rose Saison by Steel & Oak where as Mick introduces us to an India Pale Kolsch by one of the newest, coolest breweries in the area, Another Beer Company. Our album pick (30:44) is one of Tristan's all time favourites, The Electric Lady by Janelle Monáe. We dive into its exceptionally ambitious sci fi concept, funk and soul inspired bangers, incendiary guitar solos, and what it's future dystopian story of a subjugated class of androids has to say about our world today. It's a lot to examine but we had a blast going for it. Things take a decidedly darker (literally) turn with our film pick (1:37:42), the 2019 cosmic brain melter of film, The Lighthouse. If one's initial impression of this film is a black and white pretentious attempt at Oscar bait, good lord is it ever not. The depths of madness and mental trauma inflicted upon the characters of this story by the paranormal elements of the island and simply by themselves is downright morbid. It goes in fascinating, hallucinogenic and reality breaking directions, with an ending as disorienting as it is visually spectacular. Plus- ye olde sailor talk! For New and Noteworthy (2:21:35)we bang out new material from the first MVP of 2020 070 Shake, one of Mick's favourite tracks of the year so far by TOPS, Real Estate returns with a wonderful single for their new album, and just who is Konduku? Find out with us! We wrap things up with 3 questions for Skinny T (3:03:10)where Mick brings out the dreaded list question again. Listen to the show on iTunes or Spotify, or right here, where you can also find lots of other fun content.
