BORP 49: Room 29/ Booksmart/ Academy Brewing
Hello friends, welcome to EP 49 of BORP- we are very excited to have you joining us today! As we transition firmly into Autumn, Tristan fills more and more with existential dread as the onset of winter approaches. However he does get to show off more of his sweaters. Mickey has elected to take a brief sabbatical from drinking in hopes of living his best life and having a shinier beard. You can't see because it's a podcast but it is absolutely working, oh wow. As such, it was just Tristan that brought a beer this time (9:20) which was an Xtra Pale Ale from one of the newer Vancouver spots, Academy Brewing. For our album pick (21:05) Mickey selected perhaps the most atypical and out there album we've ever had on the show. We listen to the minimalist piano ballad, spoken word collaboration by Chilly Gonzales and Jarvis Cocker titled Room 29. We debate if the album, focusing on the excesses of Hollywood, is deeply funny or morbidly sad. We landed on it being a lot of both. For movie time (1:20:35) Tristan selected one of the very best and progressive comedies of 2019, Booksmart. Our New and Noteworthy (1:48:25) selections cover tracks from Max D, No Joy, Molly Birch, and Nubya Garcia. For Three Questions (2:19:27) Mickey attempts to commune with Winter Tristan and it goes about as well as expected. Find the show on Apple podcasts and Spotify.
